Status: Operating
Leader: Grand General Layeni
Operatives:
To destroy the black boxes of angel-machines as efficiently as possible.
To protect Walking City from destruction and the people on it.
Members:
ARU has a ragtag team of reckless people in their ranks. Many of these people feel a kinship with angels and wish to free them of their torment, but some hate the creatures that have possibly destroyed something dear to them.
Ranking goes as follows:
Grand General (leader)
General (funding members)
Colonel (leader of captains)
Captain (leader of dispatch teams)
Liutenant (2nd to captain)
Cadet (all other members)
Markers:
ARU-logo patches on casual clothing.
History:
The unit was formed twenty years ago by five people as a pact. These five people were Yejide Layeni, late Kukuyu, Francisca Aranha Varejão, Bambang and Dài Chāo. For different reasons, all of them agreed that a special force was needed to eradicate the angels in one way or another. Ever since, ARU has been a small taskforce of people working the dangerous job of dispatching angels of their torment. Kukuyu was chosen as the leader, later to be named the Grand General as ARU grew and ranks were necessary.
Twelve years ago a dispatch team found the docile Walking City wandering in the Siberian plains. They tried to eradicate it, but it did not attack nor react, walking along the ground and water as gingerly as ever. They alerted the generals to this, who arrived in force. The angel-machine didn't still attack. After a heated discussion (Francisca would've wanted to destroy it regardless) the generals came to a truce: the city can live as long as it takes to find the black box. However, the black box was never found in this extensive construct-- Nor any signifiers as to who had built it. Somehow, in two years, the Walking city became ARU's base of operations.
As for now, ARU is experiencing an inner turmoil underneath the calm exterior. Two forces are juxtaposited within: Yejide and Bambang versus Francisca and Dai Chao. This is due to Kukuyu's passing at the hands of an angel-machine two years ago. Yejide was then named the new Grand General at Kukuyu's request. Yejide and Bambang feel a strong kinship with angel-machines, believing them to be tormented, whereas Francisca and Dai Chao have come to view the angel-machines as the enemy.
At some point, changes need to be made into ARU. As it was started as a pact of five, it's not perhaps as prepared for such a surge of membership as it has experienced, not to say the group seems to be falling apart at the seams due to the founders fighting. Will someone strong-willed step into the boots Kukuyu left behind after her passing?
