Name: Anastazja Gruszecki
Nickname: Nastka
Age: 32
Birthday: ?
Pronouns: she/her/hers
Gender: Woman
Height: 179 cm
Occupation: ARU mechanic
Powers
Anastazja has creation powers of light, but this power is centered around her eyes. She can light up her eyes like flashlights with a blink. She can see normally while using her power, and the light focuses where she looks at.
Personality
Her powers are of light, but Anastazja herself seems to be more like a gloomy cloud.
Anastazja looks permanently a bit sour. She rarely laughs or reacts to jokes with other than a raise of her eyebrow even She's not as gloomy or gruff as she seems if you crack open her hard exterior, but she remains permanently a bit pessimistic on her outlook on life. Anastazja is more reserved, careful and melancholic than she lets out with her gruff exterior, masking it underneath her sour look.
While she's doesn't seem like it at first glance, she's studied the corpses of multiple angels. She's interested in the technology, and can be consulted about an approximation of an angels hearts location based on her prior knowledge. She has a grim interest in the angel-machines and can be found around the Walking City poking at the mechanisms. While taking Walker apart is strictly forbidden, she wishes she could. It fascinates her how something supernatural can cause the mere steel to become somehow flesh-like, bleeding at the tears.
She doesn't have many friends, but this doesn't seem to bother her. She doesn't boast of her mechanical prowess and seems to prefer working in solitude. Personal questions are met with no reply or a gruff advice to stop. This seems to tie in with her dislike of personal relationships-- She tries to keep everything strictly professional, acting as if she was too good for everyone else, which sometimes leads to heated situations. In truth, Anastazja has a bit of a problem with forming relationships, platonic or otherwise. She hasn't even kept up her parents in a long while.
In situations of conflict, Anastazja remains calm, but in personal conflicts she can be even quite insulting. She'll peer at you, call you a fool and then walk away, ignoring any further attempts at communication. It takes quite a bit to calm her once she's been angered.
Anastazja is deaf, and can only hear the lowest pitched noises as a sort of a low, incoherent hum. She doesn't really know what direction sounds come from, either. Her deafness had made her quite good at reading people's body language and other cues than vocalizations.
Appearance
Dust, grease and dirt sum up Anastazja's appearance well.
She's almost always working on something in her workshop and sure smells like it. Her musculature and general appearance is somehow wiry and dry, but still more muscular than many others. She has wide shoulders and small hips that loosely give her upper body the shape of a triangle. Anastazja's limbs are long and when she sits down in a cross-legged position, her limbs seem to scramble everywhere.
Anastazjas eyes are an average brown, and her rather short back-combed hair matches her eyes. Her skin is a bit ashy, pale, and sparsely cared for with some pockmarks from the acne of youth. The face this somewhat worn skin belongs onto is somewhat angular but not sharply lined with thin lips and a big sloped nose, far-apart round eyes and a heavy brow. Her brow is accentuated with the way she keeps her thin eyebrows in a permanent frown. Not only that, but her big, outwards-poking ears outline her face in an almost comical way in comparison to her otherwise angular features.
There's a small nick-like scar over her right eyebrow, and many smaller, faded marks along her hands and arms from slips of tools and childhood mishaps. The scar over her eyebrow is fresh-looking, but is quite old. It's deeper than any other scars on her body.
As for clothing, most of her clothing has some amount of holes or rips in them. She prefers neutral-coloured t-shirts and tanktops underneath a stiff-fabric denim-blue work overalls. Her overalls have an ARU patch and a patch with her name on it. There's usually a few tools hanging around her hips from a tool belt. Formal clothing seems a myth with Anastazja, and she can be seen in important ARU meetings wearing the same greasy overalls.
History
Originally from the area that was once known as Poland, Anastazja lived an average childhood with her family near Białystok's remains. Her mother and father were a mechanic and an electrician respectively. She had a twin sister named Adelajda. Nothing was out of ordinary until when Anastazja was fifteen and an angel-machine crossed paths with the village-- Chaos, death, and havoc ensued. Adelajda was lost, her body never found.
Once the angel-machine was so damaged it couldn't fire anymore, Anastazja ran up to it, picking it apart like a child would pull legs from an insect. She had to be pulled away from it by her mother. Anastazja never mentioned Adelajda after this, and refused to acknowledge her when she was mentioned.
Ever since then, Anastazja became obsessed with them. Her village had technology, of course, but nothing as sophisticated as the angel-machine she had witnessed at the ripe age of fifteen. She started to seek out information of this machinery and went as far as to obtain a working motorcycle for her 19th birthday present from her mother. Many felt a sense of pity for her, but this didn't faze Anastazja.
Her second proper encounter with a larger angel-machine was nine years later, when she encountered it on a salvaging trip to the nearest city remains, Białystok. The angel-machine almost killed her and gave her the nick on her eyebrow, but the ARU hopped in and distracted the angel-machine for so long Anastazja could get away, but one of them died saving her. The moment she understood what the ARU was doing, she wanted in, at any cost. And the ARU, at that point a bit desperate for members, accepted. Anastazja easily left behind her village and started to travel with ARU, repairing their vehicles and attaining more and more knowledge.
Ever since becoming part of ARU, Anastazja saw more and more angel-machines. Proving herself useful, she eventually was raised from cadet to liutenant, but not further. She works as a special consultant for teams before their missions to dispatch angel-machines, giving insight where their black box might be located.
Other:
- Anastazja drinks the darkest coffee known to man and usually has a thermos of the stuff
- Anastazja prefers writing to speaking, self-conscious of her voice: she often writes down what she has to say, her family having developed their own off-brand sign language. Walking City uses a different brand of offbrand sign language, which Anastazja is also nicely proficient in.
